The barrier draw for this Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) has been released by Perth Racing today, with the favourite Playing God drawing gate eight for the Ascot Summer Racing Carnival showdown.
Neville Parnham’s star Blackfriars colt Playing God has firmed in from $4.40 to $4.20 at Luxbet to win the 2010 Kingston Town Classic on Saturday, the winner of the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and the Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m) at their last two starts set to jump from barrier eight with Steven Parnham aboard.
Big winners from the 2010 Kingston Town Classic barrier draw include the older full brother to Playing God, God Has Spoken, drawn in barrier two; beaten Railway Stakes favourite Colour Correct looking to return to form from gate three; and Grant Williams’ classy Testa Rossa four-year-old Ranger in barrier four.
After the barriers were released, Colour Correct instantly shortened in the Kingston Town Classic odds with punters backing them in from their opening quote of $17 to $12 at Luxbet.
Ranger is another favourite also at $12, due to be ridden by Winterbottom Stakes-winning jockey William Pike on Saturday.
The best draw of the interstate raiders was veteran Black Piranha in barrier five, while Sydney gallopers Trusting and Triple Honour face a tougher test from barriers 12 and 15 respectively.
Scratched Macau galloper Luen Yat Forever drew barrier 13, meaning Triple Honour, Admiring and Impressive Jeuney, Darren McAulliffe’s four-year-old mare drawing on the far outside of the field, will all move in.
Connections of Almohad, who was a $31 roughie in the Kingston Town Classic betting at Luxbet, have decided to scratch the five-year-old from the field after they drew unsuitably with barrier 10.
The 2010 Kingston Town Classic is scheduled as Race 7 at Ascot on Saturday, due to jump at 4:00pm (local WA time).
