2010 Carbine Club of WA Stakes Field & Preview

This Saturday November 20th the 2010 Festival of Perth Racing kicks off at the famous Ascot Racecourse with Railway Stakes Day featuring an elite line-up of races including the $80,000 Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m).

The 2010 Carbine Club of WA Stakes has drawn a diminutive but classy field of seven runners with four-year-old Mabel Grace the red hot favourite.

Despite failing and finishing last in the Jungle Mist Classic here last weekend after never getting a run the entire length of the straight, Adam Durrant’s Mabel Grace is tipped to improve on Saturday and is at the top of the Carbine Club of WA Stakes odds.

Mabel Grace has drawn barrier six and drops back to her preferred weight of 53kg this weekend, which will give her every chance to show what she’s really made of.

Other notable horses in this year’s Carbine Club of WA Stakes field that could cause an upset include Mekong Miss, Elliotto and Kens Double.

The David Harrison-trained Mekong Miss was originally set to run in the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, but connections chose to scratch her from the feature in favour of a drop back in class in the WA Stakes.

Set to jump from the ideal barrier three on Saturday is the Neville Parnham-trained Elliotto, the 58kg top weight an excellent place chance in the Listed feature after finishing sixth in their past three Group 3 race starts here.

Parnham’s other starter is Kendel Star gelding Kens Double coming off a solid second to Dominicano in the John Hanlon over 1200m at this track a fortnight ago.

The 2010 Carbine Club of WA Stakes is the first black-type race on the programme for Ascot on Saturday and is due to run as Race 5 at 5:25pm (AEDST).

Leading online bookmaker Luxbet will open betting on the race shortly, so get ready to start the Perth Summer Racing Carnival off with a win by signing up with them today.
