Well Rounded wins the Matriarch Stakes – Emirates Stakes Day Results
The Lee Freedman trained four-year-old mare Well Rounded has won the Group 3 Matriarch Stakes over 1600m at Flemington today on Emirates Stakes Day.
Well Rounded, with jockey Ben Melham, had a strong run to the line and took the lead with about 400m to go from Purple, who had led for the majority of the race. Purple, trained by Peter Snowden, faded towards the end of the race but managed to hold onto second place, 1.8 lengths back. Race favourite Keep The Peace finished strongly for third after going back to last at the start. Next across the line was Music Review to round out the first four placings.
