Twenty-one quality three-year-olds have been nominated for the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), one of four Group 1 races due to run at Victoria Derby Day at Flemington this Saturday.
Victoria Derby Day is the first meeting of the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival, home to the 2010 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday week.
The 2010 Coolmore Stud Stakes is a competitive sprint feature for three-year-olds not suited to the staying distance of the day’s marquee race, the $1.5 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).
Top entries in this year’s Coolmore Stud Stakes include Buffering, Ilovethiscity and Pressday.
Buffering is an exciting Queensland galloper who has performed consistently this spring including his win in the Roman Consul Stakes two starts back and is likely to be a favourite for the Coolmore at Luxbet.
Grahame Begg’s Magic Albert colt Ilovethiscity has had mixed form with a third in the Golden Rose and win in the Spring Stakes in Sydney, but looking to improve on his Melbourne form after finishing a disappointing 10th in the Caulfield Guineas.
There will be lots of excitement surrounding the Chris Waller-trained Pressday, set to resume racing in the Coolmore after a four month spell, before which they secured back-to-back Group wins at Eagle Farm.
Classy fillies nominated for Saturday include Edward Manifold Stakes winner Sistine Angel, the Peter Snowden-trained Soul and last start Caulfield winner Solar Charged.
The final field of acceptors for the Coolmore Stud Stakes will be released on Wednesday and published here along with the detailed form and our exclusive betting tips on the race.
