On Tuesday the 2010 Thousand Guineas first declarations were taken with the most notable absentee from the list of three-year-old fillies still heading towards the October 13 feature being Crystal Lily.
After first declarations for the $1 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) came out yesterday, 100 fillies remain in contention with the most publicised of the 131 omissions from the nomination stage being Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily.
Stratum filly Crystal Lily has been withdrawn by connections after suffering an injury that has upset her spring preparations.
The other notable absentee from the list of 100 Thousand Guineas first acceptors is the Peter Moody-trained Curtana.
With Crystal Lily out, the 2010 Thousand Guineas betting markets at [sportsbet] are dominated by Peter Snowden’s Silver Shadow Stakes winner Parables, currently at $7.50.
Other fillies at the top end of the odds to win this year’s Thousand Guineas include T J Smith runner-up Ringa Ringa Rosie ($10), Furious Stakes winner More Strawberries ($10) and improving Testa Rossa filly Sistine Angel ($12).
Second declarations for the Thousand Guineas will be taken on September 21, further narrowing down the entries before the 16-filly final field of acceptances is announced on October 11.
First declarations for the other major Caulfield horse races this spring, the 2010 Caulfield Guineas (October 9) and the 2010 Caulfield Cup (October 26), were also released yesterday along with those for the 2010 Melbourne Cup and 2010 Cox Plate, and the remaining runners for each race can be found by clicking on the links.
