Theseo returned to form on Saturday when the Gai Waterhouse-trained runner dominated the field in the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Sydney’s Randwick Racecourse.
The win paid well to punters at Ladbrokes.com.au, and puts Waterhouse in a more confident position than ever when it comes to winning the 2010 Cox Plate.
The successful trainer has her mark on many of Australia’s feature races, although is missing a Cox Plate win in her illustrious career. But if Theseo continues to improve this spring, that could turn around.
Nash Rawiller took to the hot seat, and guided the seven-year-old perfectly. The pair led for the while race and finished strong to hold off the Group Two Warwick Stakes winner Metal Bender.
Trained by Chris Waller, Metal bender finished a length behind Theseo, and saw Purple finish a further three-quarters of a length back in third.
Waterhouse is planning on keeping her weight-for-age champion in Sydney for the Group One George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 25, before making the journey down to Melbourne for the Group One Yalumba Stakes (2000m) and then the Cox Plate on October 23.
Waterhouse had a successful day of racing on Saturday with the other feature – the Group Two Furious Stakes (1400m) – won by her own More Strawberries.
If you would like to follow Theseo or any other runner from the weekend, then head to Ladbrokes.com.au.
There you will find the best odds and offers when it comes to upcoming races in Australia and internationally – perfect for the spring racing season.
