Gerald Ryan’s consistent gelding Ironstein will start as the odds-on favourite in tomorrows $150,000 Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) in country New South Wales.
Four-year-old Zabeel gelding Ironstein is in red hot form having won their past three metropolitan races including the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast last start and has been penalised for the wins with a hefty 58kg weight for the Grafton Cup.
A strong horse able to carry the weight, proven over the distance and drawn well in barrier six, Ironstein will be hard to beat at the Grafton track on Thursday and is currently paying $2.50 for a win at [sportsbet].
Sitting as the equal $5.50 second favourites at [sportsbet] for the Cup are Frozone and Beatboy.
Ipswich Cup runner-up Frozone has drawn out wide in barrier 11 but is still a top chance if the track is good, while the Michael Moroney-trained Beatboy is coming off a gallant third in the Group 3 Tatt’s Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm and will jump from barrier three.
Other top chances in the 2010 Grafton Cup worth looking at for Each Way and Place bets include Teary Eyed and Twin Wing.
John Morrisey’s Street Cry gelding Teary Eyed finished third in the Caloundra Cup last start and will be looking to seek revenge on Ironstein this Thursday. Drawn ideally in barrier two, Teary Eyed is good value at $7 through [sportsbet] and will be ridden by experienced hoop Chris Munce.
