Yosei, trained by Stuart Webb, has created an upset to win the group 1 $300,000 AJC Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m today by a nose from Skilled, with Hinchinbrook third.
It was a tough ride by jockey Michelle Payne, with 3 other horses all neck and neck with Yosei going to the line, but the tiny filly managed to find some speed at the right time and hold on to win race 6 of AJC Australian Derby Day at Royal Randwick.
The win is a great story for Yosei, who’s owner John Pittard tried to sell her for $15,000 last year but was passed in at auction for $14,500. She now has won a group 1 race worth $300,000.
