On Saturday Sydney trainer Chris Waller further asserted his dominance in this year’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile, when his brilliant gelding Danleigh ran to a powerful victory in the $400,000 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.
Champion hoop Hugh Bowman had an impressive ride with Danleigh ($4.60), who pulled out his customary finishing burst to storm to the front an easy 1 lengths in front of Dao Dao ($7.50) after originally settling towards the tail end of the field.
Early leader and current New Zealand Horse of the Year King Mufhasa ($13) did well to hang for third a further three quarters of a length back for the second year in a row, while the Graham Begg-trained Palacio De Cristal ran a gallant fourth.
Six-year-old Danleigh has now won eight of his 31 race starts and will head to the prestigious $1.3million Doncaster Mile on April 17 at Randwick, for which he is the current second favourite with [iasbet] behind Typhoon Tracy.
Rosehill-based Waller has two other strong nominations in the 2010 Doncaster Mile, Rangirangdoo who is equal second favourite with his stablemate at $6.50 and Triple Honour, currently a $34 chance, who ran a solid eight in the George Ryder on Saturday.
