In a stunningly close blanket finish at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday, the Leon Corstens-trained Starspangledbanner claimed his second Group 1 win in three starts when the Choisir colt was victorious in the $400, 000 Oakleigh Plate.
After sitting third nearly all the way in the 1100m sprint feature, Starspangledbanner ($7) with Danny Nikolic aboard, moved up in the final few metres to snatch a short head victory ahead of Rubiton Stakes winner Here De Angles ($6) and South Australian outsider Arinos ($51), who finished in a dead heat for second.
