The countdown to the Sydney Spring Racing...
The final field and barriers for this Saturday?s $500 000 Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot have been announced, as Perth gears up for its most prestigious sprint event.
Heading the betting markets is the Tony Vasil-trained Lucky Secret currently a $3.80 chance. Last Saturday?s Group 1 Railway Stakes winning jockey Nash Rawiller has picked up the mount on Lucky Secret, hoping to make it two from two at Ascot. Lucky Secret has drawn barrier eight.
Tony Noonan?s mare Ortensia will contend the race, starting from barrier six with in-form hoop Craig Williams aboard, following her less-than-ideal sixth place behind Sniper?s Bullet in the Railway Stakes last week. The four-year-old is currently third favourite at $5.
Second favourite at $4.40 is Waratahs Secret, set to start beside Lucky Secret from barrier nine.
Local runners attempting to break the $1million in earnings are quality sprinters Let Go Thommo (barrier 3) and Idyllic Prince (barrier 5).
