Master O’Reilly is a confirmed contender for the Group Two Sandown Classic (2400m) held at Betfair Park Sandown this Saturday.
Although the seven year old has not won a race since the Caulfield Cup in 2007, his form this spring has been outstanding.
Trainer Danny O’Brien is confident the horse will do well in the upcoming race particularly after placing fourth behind Shocking in the Melbourne Cup.
Despite finish four lengths behind the winner, Master O’Reilly sprinted well in the last 600m after a slow pace early on in the event.
The gelding’s comeback performance this season has seen him win prize money in all six of his starts which includes the Underwood Stakes, Yalumba Stakes, Caulfield Cup and Mackinnon Stakes.
Suited to the weight-for-age conditions of this Saturday’s $400,000 race, O’Brien plans to run Master O’Reilly in the Sandown Classic and he will then look towards a fourth Melbourne Cup campaign.
