Melbourne Cup winner Viewed will have his first run at Flemington for the year with this Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes.
Trained by Bart Cummings, the six year-old is expected to turn heads with a stellar performance after a good rest from the autumn racing carnival.
Stable Foreman Reg Fleming said the horse is doing as well as, if not better than last year.
This is partly due to the spell Viewed was given after only four runs during autumn whereas last year he was raced nonstop after winning the Brisbane Cup in June.
Viewed has so far placed fourth in the 1400m Memsie Stakes and tenth in the 1800m Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.
Ridden by jockey Brad Rawiller, Viewed will be placed in barrier 13 alongside fifteen other horses.
This year’s 2000m Turnbull Stakes includes a long list of strong contenders including two Melbourne Cup winners, two Cox Plate winners, a Caulfield Cup victor and two Derby winners.
Last year’s Cox Plate winner Maldivian will ride alongside 2007 Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate winners Master O’Reilly and El Segundo.
Also racing is AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor, the Cummings’ trained Joe Blow and previous Melbourne Cup winner Efficient.
The remaining horses entered in the race include Zipping, Scenic Shot, C’est La Guerre, Predatory Pricer, Baughurst, Red Lord, Zagreb and Red Ruler.
The Group 1 Turnbull Stakes will take place at 3.50 pm at Flemington as a part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival preview day.
