Cantbuybetter Wins 2017 Members’ Handicap
A terrific late effort from the Ben Currie-trained Cantbuybetter at Doomben on 10,000 Day saw the galloper lead an all Toowoomba trifecta in the Members’ Handicap 2017 results.

Coming off a close third behind Single Gaze at the same track and distance in the Tails Stakes from April 22, Casino Prince five-year-old Cantbuybetter was in winning form getting into the $100,000 Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) on the 54kg minimum.
Jockey Jeff Lloyd retained the ride on the gelding who was settled around fourth in running throughout as the expected leader Sheiswhatsheis set the pace having come around from her wide draw.
Robert Heathcote’s last start Eagle Farm winner Punta Norte was in second behind the front runner during the race, while the in-form Kiwi visitor Sultan Of Swing had zero luck getting posted three wide.
Sultan Of Swing was working hard on the outside in third, while Lloyd was back in the field biding his time on Cantbuybetter.
The favourite Jumbo Prince was still third last meanwhile on the turn for home, the Michael Nolan-trained stallion coming off a Tails Stakes fourth that followed his Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) win back home at Toowoomba on April 8.
Jumbo Prince made up plenty of ground, but carrying the 57kg top weight just didn’t have enough to run down a couple in front.
With 200m left to travel, Cantbuybetter hit the front and raced off for an impressive two length victory from the fast finishing roughie Emphasis prepared at Toowoomba by Richie Stephenson.
The beaten top fancy Jumbo Prince ran third to round out the trifecta.
The Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) at weight-for-age at Eagle Farm on May 27 could be a nice next-up option for the Members’ Handicap winner Cantbuybetter this winter.
