She Will Reign Tops 2017 Silver Slipper Stakes Nominations

Early favourite to win the Golden Slipper Stakes next month back at Rosehill Gardens, She Will Reign is the headline nominee for the Silver Slipper Stakes 2017 this weekend in Sydney.

Racing NSW have extended nominations for this season’s $250,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) until 11:00am (AEDT) on Tuesday after a dozen original entries were taken.

A key lead-up to the lucrative $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on March 18, the Silver Slipper Stakes gives the Gary Portelli-trained filly She Will Reign the chance to retain her spot at the top of all-in betting for the Group 1 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The undefeated daughter of Manhattan Rain has won her opening two career starts including the Inglis Nursery in the wet at Randwick by a runaway four lengths in December.

She has since blitzed an 808m Warwick Farm trial in early February by nine lengths and looks fit and ready to fire in the Silver Slipper Stakes on Saturday in her Group race debut.

She Will Reign is the $6 futures Golden Slipper betting favourite and the other shortest-priced in those pre-field markets for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds nominated for the Silver Slipper is Khan ($11).

Prepared by last year’s Golden Slipper Stakes winning trainers with Capitalist (2016) Peter & Paul Snowden, Khan is a well-bred Exceed and Excel colt coming back to the races on Saturday.

On debut he won the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick and he has trialled well twice since including a smart Gosford hit-out win on February 6.

The other best in both all-in Golden Slipper and Silver Slipper Stakes betting is Veranillo representing John O’Shea and the Godolphin stable.

The Medaglia D’Oro colt is two-from-two so far including the nice win on February 4 at Randwick in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m).

For the Silver Slipper Stakes O’Shea has also nominated for the promising Malahat, the son of Exceed And Excel out to break his maiden status at his third career run.

Malahat ran a first-up third behind Pariah at Rosehill in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on January 28, the winner of which went on to finish second to property in last weekend’s Blue Diamond Prelude in Melbourne.

Along with the favourite She Will Reign there are four other fillies nominated for the Silver Slipper Stakes on Saturday including the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Invincible Star.

She won the Group 3 over 1000m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and is out to improve on her sixth to Houtzen first-up in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) from the wide barrier (13 of 16) at the Gold Coast.

Six-time Golden Slipper winning trainer Waterhouse has also nominated for Mystic Empire in the Group 2 on the weekend, a filly by All Too Hard who ran second at the track in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) late last month.

Other notable entries include the Anthony Cummings-trained Pluck filly Lucky Louie last seen running second to Invincible Star at Flemington in November and a stablemate to the favourite Single Bullet.

Check out the current Silver Slipper Stakes 2017 nominations below before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au to place your early bets on the two-year-old autumn races including the Golden Slipper at the hottest odds.
