Myer Classic the Target for Stocks Stakes Winner Don’t Doubt Mamma
Don’t Doubt Mamma has produced another huge sprint in the final straight this evening to take out the Group 2 Stock Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley with ease.

Don’t Doubt Mamma carried winning form into the Stocks Stakes after a scintillating performance in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 10th, but the mare settled at the tail of the field after jumping well tonight.
Miss Rose De Lago took up the early running but set only a fair tempo and ensured every horse would be given her chance.
Jockey Dwayne Dunn pulled the mare wide rounding onto the final straight and allowed plenty of time before asking for an extra effort; a decision that proved decisive when the mare produced a typically large turn of foot to finish over the top of Kaniana and Miss Rose De Lago.
“Rising Romance just bombed the start and it had me wondering where I was going to be, but we came back at got a beautiful cut into the corner,” Dunn said.
“There was always a question mark at the mile, but I made her work on the bend and she really started to pick up nicely and she got the job done.
“I’d really love to win a Group 1 on her one day and hopefully it’s not too far away.”
Trainer Tony McEvoy secured a running double with victory in the Stocks Stakes after saddling Hey Doc to win the Group 2 Stutt Stakes, and underlined the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day as the major campaign target for Don’t Doubt Mamma this season.
“It wasn’t our plan to be back that far but when you have these high-class riders on, as a trainer it gives you a lot of confidence to leave them to the decision making,” McEvoy said.
“She was fabulous. She got on the back of Rising Romance and I thought it would be lovely and we’d be taken into the race, but then Dwayne had to come off her back halfway around the turn.
“She did a tremendous job and this mare just has got this great winning culture and is a great competitor, and I don’t know where she’s going to take us.
“She’s very good at a mile. I think the Myer is her race. The ownership group are keen to go down that path.
“It’s a Group 1 against mares – it’s her race.”
Don’t Doubt Mamma has posted an impressive career total of seven wins and four minors through a total of sixteen competitive starts.
