2016 Light Fingers Stakes Tips

A small but classy field of three-year-old fillies face off in the Light Fingers Stakes 2016 this Saturday at Randwick Racecourse, betting tips for the Apollo Stakes Day clash found below.

Ghisoni

There are eight in the mix for Randwick Race 3 – the $175,000 Group 2 Liberty International Underwriters Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) with the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au a tight affair.

Current favourite in the Light Fingers Stakes odds at $3.50 is the undefeated and untapped John O’Shea-trained daughter of Lonhro Ghisoni.

This young filly has looked the goods with her two November wins in Sydney plus a successful barrier trial over an open age and gender trial at Randwick in late January ahead of her toughest test to date here.

She is followed closely in Light Fingers Stakes betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival by Team Snowden’s in-form Kangarilla Joy ($3.80), another Lonhro progeny, who comes off back-to-back 1100m wins and the Group 1 winning market mover Stay With Me ($4.40 into $4).

So will Ghisoni retain her undefeated status on Saturday, can the returning Thousand Guineas champ Stay With Me get the better of her or will another filly steal the show like the rails-drawn Pearls ($6) who ran fourth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at the track last October?

Our 2016 Light Fingers Stakes Trifecta Tip is #7 Ghisoni from #3 Pearls and #1 Stay With Me

1st

#7 Ghisoni ($3.50)

A big wrap on this up-and-coming Godolphin-raced filly, and rightfully so. She rises notably up in class but looks like she will hander the tougher company no worries. Back-to-back winner in her opening prep during the spring, both over 1200m, and won a strong trial at Randwick over 1050m to bring her on for her black-type debut. Distance suits and should get the run of the race from barrier two with top Sydney hoop James McDonald also flying on her back.

2nd

#3 Pearls ($6)

Tipping O’Shea to take out the quinella with a nice price on offer for this returning stablemate of the early favourite. A winner of two of her four starts to date, Exceed And Excel filly Pearls saluted in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at the track before a good fourth when under a length off the winner in the Flight Stakes over a mile during the spring. She has trialled twice since and is looking to further frank the form off a January 29 hit-out at Randwick when second to subsequent Eskimo Prince Stakes winner Spill The Beans.

3rd

#1 Stay With Me ($4)

This Lindsay Park-raced daughter of Street Cry is from a nice pedigree and lived up to the breeding with her Thousand Guineas win over the Caulfield mile last time in. She was sixth in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) after that at Flemington, only beaten two and a half lengths, and trialled well behind English at Randwick late last month. Goes well first-up (2-1-1-0) and has excellent form over this distance (3-2-0-0) even though she’s proven over further.
