2010 Melbourne Cup Odds

After the running of a number of early Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival features over the past fortnight, Australia’s leading online bookmaker Sportsbet have updated the 2010 Melbourne Cup Odds.

Two turf stars are now sharing equal favouritism to become the 150th Emirates Melbourne Cup winner this Tuesday November 2, with Bart Cummings’ classy mare Dariana and last year’s Melbourne Cup champion Shocking both paying $10 at Sportsbet.

Cummings, affectionately known as the Cups King, is seeking his record 13th Melbourne Cup victory this year and his Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Dariana is seen as his best chance of taking home another Loving Trophy.

Dariana firmed in from $15 into $10 at Sportsbet following her impressive second to So You Think in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on September 18.

It was a big improvement from her first-up eighth in the Let’s Elope Stakes and Dariana will have her next race this Sunday at Flemington in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Mark Kavanagh’s reigning Cup champion Shocking is the other early favourite in the Melbourne Cup Betting, the Street Cry five-year-old also lining up in the Turnbull Stakes this weekend looking to improve from its fifth place finish in the Underwood.

Shocking was the pronounced Melbourne Cup favourite at $8 last week, but drifted out to $10 after falling back in the Underwood.

The next line of betting for the Melbourne Cup at Sportsbet has two more Bart Cummings’ stablestars So You Think and Precedence installed as the equal $11 second elects.

Underwood Stakes winner and last year’s Cox Plate champion So You Think was the other big mover in the Melbourne Cup odds shortening from $17 into $11.

The other Cup hopeful at $11 is Precedence, the Zabeel gelding had his price slashed following last weekend’s victory in the JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

The top two international horses in the Melbourne Cup odds are Sans Frontieres at $15 and Profound Beauty paying $21.

The Jeremy Noseda-trained Sans Frontieres is the only horse with a Melbourne Cup ballot exemption following the Galileo five-year-olds’ win in the Irish St Leger at the start of the month.
