Williamson Pleased with Darci Be Good Ahead of Ipswich Cup

Darci Be Good is yet to post a black type victory since being transferred to the care of Andrew Williamson in 2014 and faces an uphill battle of ending the drought in Saturday’s Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) after being charged with carrying 57kgs.

Returning to racing this time for sixth in the Garrards Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on April 11th, Darci Be Good charged home to win the Coastline BMW Handicap (1400m) on May 3rd and has since finished second in the Summerveld Racing BM95 (1800m) and third in the Listed Spear Chief Quality (1630m).

Having been saddled to notable successes by trainer Bede Murray prior to arriving north of the border, Williamson told AAP the son of Darci Brahma has always been charged with carrying weights on the heavier end of the scale and is confident veteran hoop Damian Browne will get the best from his runner in the 2015 Ipswich Cup.

“He won the Hawkesbury Gold Cup and was second in the Group 1 Champion Stakes before he came to us so he has always been up in the weights,” Williamson said.

“Damian Browne is going to make the trip to ride him and that is a big plus as well.

“Darci Be Good came to us in very good shape from Bede but he really seems to have bloomed up here.

“I would love to see him win a stakes race for the connections but even more so for the horse himself – he deserves it.

“He isn’t at his best on really soft tracks but I think his best surface is the old dead rating and we might get that on Saturday.”

Posting seven wins and a further thirteen minors through 46 career starts so far, Darci Be Good made an immediate impact upon arriving in Williamson’s care; finishing outside the first three only three times in ten spring and summer starts.

Confirmed amongst a classy field of 13, Darci Be Good will give only three kilograms to the 2015 Ipswich Cup’s lightest weights and will leave from the ideal barrier 6.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Ipswich Cup odds, for which Darci Be Good can be taken at a quote of $5.50 for success.
