Saturday’s Gold Coast line-up is top class with Magic Millions Day lighting up the Queensland course including a smart field of female gallopers in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap 2015 – betting tips for which are detailed below.

There are 16 runners confirmed a start plus three emergencies making up the field for this year’s $200,000 R.M. Williams Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m), the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for the showdown led by the Chris Waller-trained top weight.

Drawn in gate six for jockey Hugh Bowman who rides the four-year-old Street Sense mare on 59kg, Champagne Cath pays $3.50 in the latest Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap odds following a nice first-up run last time out.

On December 20 at Rosehill Gardens she ran a nice second to Haussmann in the $85,000 Schweppes One Metro Win Last Year Handicap (1300m) crossing only half a length off the winner.

She’s over the same distance for this running at the Gold Coast for the first time and despite the big weight she’s tipped to win and return to her former form that saw her run third to Sweet Idea in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) last February.

Champagne Cath is followed in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap betting markets by only two other single-figure hopes then with Lacey Morrison’s Toowoomba-trained Tukiyo ($5.50) coming off a win at her home track form New Year’s Eve and the in-form Stolen Kisses ($7) who has run second in her two most recent runs.

So do the bookies have it right?

Will the top three in betting also run Saturday’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap trifecta, or is there an upset on the agenda from a longer priced rival such as Todd Austin’s six-year-old Playtime ($13) or Miss Husson ($10) who has a gun barrier two draw and comes off a win?

#8 Miss Husson ($10)

Getting in on the 54kg minimum here is Bruce Hill’s local four-year-old Husson mare who surprisingly just her second Gold Coast start here at career run number 17. She boasts four wins to date, including one from four at the track, and won her lead-up race in a Class 3 over 1350m at Ipswich on December 24. Was runner-up to Hopfgarten and beaten only a half-length as a three-year-old last June in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) so she’s got class and form over more distance. Second-up over the 1300m will be fine and she drops three kilos with apprentice Matthew McGuren staying on.

#1 Champagne Cath ($3.50)

The favourite certainly has claims but she’s yet to win second-up and she’s carrying a big weight with the 59kg up from 56.5kg last time out. She’s Group 2 placed but her form at the end of last prep was pretty average and while this is an easier field she’s going to have to be running well. Gets a good draw and the resuming run was pretty good so might salute if she handles those kilos.

#4 Playtime ($13)

Another double figure hope with genuine claims, this Foreplay mare has been racing well in good black-type company including a third in the Listed Tatt’s Classic (1200m) and fourth in the Listed Just Now Handicap (1350m) at Doomben. Comes into this off a run at the track over 1400m from December 27 when third to Breakfast In Bed with 57.5kg, the same weight she’s got for this against her own kind.
