Victorian galloper Moudre has moved up significantly in the 2010 Melbourne Cup betting markets at [sportsbet] following a classy win at Flemington a fortnight ago.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Blevic gelding opened as a long-shot chance for the $6 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) on Tuesday November 2, but is now one of the top 25 contenders.

A winner of five of their 11 career starts to date, Moudre’s latest success came in their first-up run for the season when the gelding claimed a powerful win in the Colin Johnston Handicap (1410m) at Flemington on August 7.

It was the five-year-old’s second successive metropolitan win following their four-length victory at the same course over 1,800m back in May.

Moudre, bred by Colin McKenna and trained at Warrnambool, has also been nominated for the 2010 Caulfield Cup and the 2010 Cox Plate.

He is currently at $21 to win the Caulfield Cup on October 16 behind $11 favourite Dariana at [sportsbet], and is at longer odds of $51 in the early Cox Plate markets.

Maher, already a Group 1 winning trainer following his success in the 2007 Emirates Stakes with Tears I Cry, will attempt to qualify Moudre for the Cups through the Group 2 Presentation Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield on October 9.
