Next year’s Singapore Derby 2015 is the long term mission for Peter Snowden’s promising colt Blademeister following their maiden win in Sydney over the weekend.

Snowden, who now trains in partnership with his son Paul, has long been eager to celebrate a Group 1 international victory.

He hopes that could come next June with ambitious plans already in motion for his rising three-year-old son of Bernardini Blademeister to target the $1.15 million Emirates Singapore Derby (2000m) at Kranji Racecourse.

The former Darley horseman spoke of the overseas aim for the up-and-comer after their impressive effort at Randwick’s Kensington track in the $85,000 Theraces.com.au Handicap (1550m).

Having their third career start on the back of a third and fourth respectively earlier this month, Blademeister went out as the equal $3.50 favourite for Saturday’s race with the Gary Portelli-trained Testashadow.

Those two top fancies dominated the race too going stride-for-stride over the closing stages before Josh Parr’s mount Blademeister pulled clear to win by a long neck in the end impressing their jockey.

“This is another horse with a bright future,” Parr said post-win.

“He relaxed nicely, came back well underneath me and then went to them at three-quarter pace from the turn.”

In a distant third nearly four lengths off the winner was then the Peter Moody-trained Statton ($6.50).

“Blademeister is owned by Singapore interests and this horse is perfect for the Derby over there,” Snowden told The Courier Mail on Saturday.

“The owners want me to take him over there for that race which is in June next year.

“There is a lot of water to flow under the bridge now but I would love to take this horse over for the Singapore Derby.

“I could give him two runs at the end of our autumn carnival and then two runs into Singapore.”

Showing plenty of determination on the weekend, Blademeister showed off their staying potential with the victory that saw them step up to the distance for the first time.

Snowden then is confident they will continue to improve over the next 12 months as they get tested over even further leading up to a hopeful 2000m run in the Singapore Derby.

“Blademeister has always shown he wanted a trip,” Snowden said.

“Certainly, going to 2000m won’t be a problem for him but he’s still learning and we will go steady with him.”

Parr agreed the horse, who was already showing the signs of a true professional, would be ever more impressive over more distance.

“I can’t want to ride him over 2000m,” Parr added.

“Once he is in a race it is all business.”

Next on the agenda, after a brief freshen-up, though could be the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in something like the $250,000 Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, November 1.

“I’m inclined to give him a breather and then look at a couple of races in Melbourne during the spring,” Snowden said.

“There’s the Carbine Club Stakes and also an 1800m race for home on (Crown) Oaks Day.”

That Oaks Day race is the $150,000 Listed Connoisseur Stakes (1800m) for three-year-olds on Thursday November 6.
