Eleven weight-for-age champions will line-up at Randwick on Saturday to contest the $300,000 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) as part of the highly anticipated Sydney Cup Day programme.
The 2010 All Aged Stakes will be a hotly contested and very close race, featuring a wide open field headed by Hot Danish, Danleigh and Mic Mac.
The talented trio are fighting for favouritism in the betting markets, installed at current odds of $3.60 (Hot Danish), $3.80 (Danleigh) and $4 (Mic Mac) with [iasbet].
Six-year-old Hot Danish has had an impressive autumn campaign including her win in the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 20.
The Les Bridge-trained Nothin’ Leica Dane mare then backed her victory up with a powerful second place to Melito in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) last start, and will jump from barrier seven on Saturday.
Despite their T J Smith Stakes win and ideal barrier one draw, the Gerald Ryan-trained Melito is further down in the betting markets paying $5.50 for a win with [iasbet] at the moment, the in-form Redoute’s Choice filly representing good value.
The current second favourite, the Chris Waller-trained Danleigh, ran a brilliant race two starts back when the six-year-old won the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and is coming into Saturday’s showdown off a fifth place finish to Rangirangdoo in the Doncaster Mile.
Danleigh will be ridden by gifted hoop Nash Rawiller, who rode Rangirangdoo to Doncaster victory last Saturday, and has drawn wide with barrier 10.
Hugh Bowman, who was aboard Danleigh for the gelding’s most recent races, has the mount on rival Mic Mac in the 2010 All Aged Stakes.
Four-year-old Mic Mac finished off the T J Smith trifecta last start and will be looking to turn the table on Melito and Hot Danish by sneaking in with a win from barrier nine in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes.
Also worth keeping an eye on are Peter Snowden’s classy stablemates Beaded and Demerit drawn in barriers two and four respectively.
The richest event on the eight-race card is the $400,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) where top stayers Zavite, Precedence and Jessicabeel will face off.
Other highlights will be the $350, 000 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) featuring Rangirangdoo and Road To Rock who ran the quinella in the Doncaster Mile last start, and the $300,000 Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) featuring a capacity field of promising two-year-olds including Golden Slipper fifth placegetter Beneteau.
The 2010 Daily Telegraph All Aged Stakes is scheduled to start at 4:15pm as race seven on the day’s eight-event card.
