Do You Think Misses Slipper But Wins The Schweppervescence for Cummings
Do You Think wins the first at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day
The well-bred son of Starcraft by Chickens, Do You Think was the first emergency for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) today but after missing out on a start in the world’s richest two-year-olds’ race gave Cummings a nice consolation prize.
“It’s nice to win anywhere,” Cummings said after the race.
Maintaining their unbeaten record, Do You Think won their second race from as many starts today and saluted for the punters at the favourite.
Drawn awkwardly in barrier 11, jockey Hugh Bowman produced a faultless ride aboard Do You Think.
Away quickly from the gates Do You Think settled just outside the leaders, Gal Pal the early frontrunner.
On the turn for home Do You Think and Bowman found the room they needed hooking out wide, pushing their position to get clear at the top of the straight.
From then Do You Think was never going to be beaten.
Shooting to the lead with 300m to go, Do You Think maintained his lead to win one length ahead of the David Payne-trained Cocky Raider who hit the line well while Gai Waterhouse’s Satirical Boy finished just a neck further back in third.
Testa Rossa gelding Cocky Raider did well making up lots of ground on the straight flying up the outside to challenge but just couldn’t catch the leader.
Do You Think has now won two from two, his prize money boosted to over $100,000 with today’s success.
The colt has three-year-old written all over him and is sure to improve greatly throughout the year.
Cummings confirmed the $500,000 Group 1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick next Saturday April 9 and the $400,000 Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 23 as the two most natural follow-up assignments for Do You Think this season.
“(Do You Think) proved his worth today and I think he’s got a good future,” Cummings said.
Cummings will be looking to Rosehill Race 7, the 2011 Golden Slipper, where he is represented by Pago Pago Stakes winner Salade and Empress Rock.
Bowman is also gearing up for a big Slipper having secured the mount on Clarry Conners’ speedy filly Satin Shoes rated a $10 chance to upset favourite Sepoy.
