2011 Blue Diamond Preview Fields, Barriers & Betting

This Australia Day, Wednesday January 26, Caulfield Racecourse will host a cracker day of racing that includes the two Blue Diamond Previews for two-year-olds heading towards the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 26.

On the Caulfield race-card for this Wednesday, two $100,000 Listed 1000m sprints will take place with the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings, and the Blue Diamond Preview for fillies set to run as races three and four.

In the 2011 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) 10 classy two-year-old colts and geldings will line up including top-rated entry, the Peter Moody-trained Golden Archer.

Unbeaten in their two career starts back in December, Rock Of Gibraltar colt Golden Archer is allocated 55.5kg, dropping back 2kg from the weight they carried to victory here last start, and will jump from barrier seven.

Another early favourite in the field is Bossdon City, Brett Cavanough’s up-and-coming gelding sitting at around $17 in the early Blue Diamond Stakes odds after wining on debut in an upset over Godspeed on January 15 at Rosehill.

Other exciting youngsters in the Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Preview include John Thompson’s unraced General Nediym gelding Boys On Tour (barrier 10), the Peter Snowden-trained Sepoy (barrier two) who won on debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington back in October and having their first race start Hussonet colt Envious who has been heavily backed in the Blue Diamond Stakes futures markets.

Interesting to note is the large number of two-year-olds that have debuted on Australia Day and gone on to win the Blue Diamond Stakes.

There have been seven Blue Diamond Preview / Blue Diamond Stakes double winners including Reward For Effort (2009) and Reaan (2008).

After the colts and geldings face off, the 2011 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview for Fillies takes centre stage and punters will be keeping a close eye on this Australia Day race after last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily won the fillies Blue Diamond Preview first-up 12 months ago.

Hot favourite from the 13-horse field is Peter Moody’s Encosta De Lago filly One Last Dance while others in the market include Caulfield winner Jessica Rose, promising Stratum filly Spectrolite and John Thompson’s unbeaten grey Motifs.
