Champion High Chaparral four-year-old Monaco Consul was retired from racing last week, this year’s Caulfield Cup third placegetter to serve at stud for the famous Patinack Farm stables.

Following a solid career on the Australian racing scene, highlighted by their back-to-back Group 1 wins in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick and Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington in the spring of 2009 as a three-year-old, Monaco Consul most recently ran a disappointing 14^th behind French stayer Americain in the $6 million Melbourne Cup on November 2.

Injured during the Melbourne Cup run, the decision was made by connections to retire Monaco Consul and send the $1.4 million earner to stud, with Patinack Farm purchasing the stallion.

Under the training of Michael Moroney, Monaco Consul raced 16 times for three wins, a second and a hat-trick of third place finishes, including a gallant third behind Descarado in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on October 16, earning $1,478,355 in total career prize money.

Patinack is hoping Monaco Consul will produce similar results as his boom sire High Chaparral, also the father of dual Cox Plate winner So You Think now racing for Coolmore Stud in Europe.
