2017 The Everest Bound Redkirk Warrior Impresses Bayliss

Hoop Regan Bayliss was thrilled with Tuesday’s Tatura barrier trial from Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior who is being aimed towards The Everest 2017 in Sydney this spring.

Lindsay Park’s veteran sprinter was put through his paces over 1000m and despite finishing seven lengths back for second behind the stable’s Oakleigh Plate champion Sheidel, Redkirk Warrior did plenty to impress Bayliss.

From a wide alley Bayliss had the horse sitting easy at the tail end of the field before finishing off strongly with Redkirk Warrior running through the line and beyond in a nice early trial.

“I didn’t want to knock him around on the track, it was a Heavy 9 and he is a horse that prefers it on top of the ground,” Bayliss told Racing Victoria on Tuesday.

“He was nice and relaxed early and then when I asked him to quicken he felt really strong and past the post he picked up Sheidel pretty quickly.”

An imported son of Notnowcato, Redkirk Warrior has won two of his five starts down under including most notably his massive upset as a $31 roughie when beating home Voodoo Lad at Flemington in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) back in March.

Last time out the lightly-raced galloper, who has had just a dozen career runs to date, lined-up on a Heavy (8) Randwick track in mid-April finishing two lengths back fifth behind Tivaci in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Bayliss missed the All Aged Stakes ride where Craig Williams was in the saddle but previously partnered Redkirk Warrior for his Newmarket victory and his distant 11th to It’s Somewhat in the Doncaster Mile (1600m).

This spring connections have the smart sprinter tagged for a run in the Restricted $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.

Futures The Everest betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has Redkirk Warrior installed as a $17 shot with Chautauqua dominating the markets.

Leading up to the inaugural edition of The Everest, where interests can purchase a slot in the field at a cost of $600,000, Redkirk Warrior is tipped to resume racing at Flemington on September 16 in the Group 2 $200,000 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m).

The Bobbie Lewis will be the Group 1 winner’s first start back over the Flemington straight since the Newmarket Handicap.
