Two of the country’s leading middle-distance mares are battling for favouritism in an absolutely stacked edition of the King Charles III Stakes 2025 with last start winners Fangirl and Pride Of Jenni tipped to battle it out over the Randwick mile for top honours on The Everest Day.

The key support act on the Sydney card, which is headed by the $20 million The Everest, this year’s Group 1 $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1609m) field has drawn an elite line-up challenging even the world’s richest turf race for the punters’ attention.
A dozen of the best milers face off in the weight-for-age clash, and it is Chris Waller‘s 2023 champ Fangirl sitting top of the latest King Charles III Stakes odds at $4 through Ladbrokes.com.au to collect her second trophy.
Having beaten the field by a commanding margin in this event to years back, Fangirl is now out to atone for her midfield sixth in last year’s results.
She has enjoyed a huge 12 months collecting another key Group 1 win in the Queen Of The Turf at this track and trip over the autumn and was last seen successfully defending her $1 million 7 Stakes title on September 20.
Waller’s record in this race as both the former George Main Stakes and in its new incarnation is enormous, he’s won nine times since 2011 and is out to take his collection into double-figures.
James McDonald partners Fangirl again but she and her star hoop have work to do from out wide in gate 11.
Ciaron Maher‘s front-running queen Pride Of Jenni was back to her brilliant best last start when running her rivals ragged to kick off her eight-year-old campaign with a huge win over Treasurethe Moment in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at The Valley.
She now heads to Randwick for the fifth time – the first since she crossed second best to Ceolwulf in the 2024 edition – and pays King Charles III Stakes odds of $4.40.
A runaway Group 1 winner here over Via Sistina in last year’s Queen Elizabeth, Pride Of Jenni also has a solid second-up record (9:2-4-1) and jumps from gate eight with Declan Bates in the saddle once again.
She’ll be screaming in the lead looking to go all-the-way as is her style, and the backmarkers won’t want to wait too long to try and close the gap or she’ll get away with the cheap sectionals and blitz them again.
Following closely on the third line of King Charles III Stakes betting is Mr Brightside who ran second to Fangirl back in 2023.
Lindsay Park‘s evergreen eight-year-old has been excellent his two runs this time in including winning a historic third Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over the mile at Flemington on September 13.
He got things his way in front without challenge at HQ and won’t get that here facing off with Pride Of Jenni but he remains a tenacious warhorse still in outstanding form with plenty left in the tank.
With prize money just shy of $18 million, Mr B is one of the country’s most popular gallopers and even from the outside alley he and jockey Craig Williams shape up as a genuine winning hope here.
Last year’s winner Ceolwulf is out to go back-to-back in the race for the first time since the Winx three-peat (2016-18) and he pays $9.50 to successfully defend his title.
Joe Pride‘s Tavistock five-year-old hasn’t won a race since April but he has had four runs this time in so presents as the fit horse in the mix.
Two back in completed the 7 Stakes trifecta behind Fangirl before a credible sixth in the Epsom Handicap giving weight away with 58kg.
He perhaps isn’t in the same vein of form as last spring but will get his chance from a favourable barrier four.
Rounding out the hopes under $10 for the win are the William Haggas trained raider Lake Forest ($7.50) to be ridden by Zac Purton who is down under for the ride on Ka Ying Rising in The Everest and the Bjorn Baker trained Group 2 Tramway winner Pericles ($9.50) coming off a strong third in the Epsom.
The 2025 King Charles III Stakes is set to run as Randwick Race 9 at 5:35pm (AEDT) as the penultimate event on Saturday’s card.
