2025 Doncaster Mile Nominations Feature 156 Hopefuls

The Doncaster Mile 2025 nominations for Day 1 of The Championships in Sydney on April 5 have been released with 156 of the season’s best milers entered for the $3 million classic at Royal Randwick.

Early entries for a number of the autumn features closed on Tuesday including those for the time honoured Group 1 $3 million The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m).

Heading all in Doncaster Mile 2025 betting at Ladbrokes.com.au are Autumn Glow and Ceolwulf at an equal quote of $8 to take out one of the country’s premier handicap races.

Chris Waller‘s The Autumn Sun filly Autumn Glow is being kept safe in futures markets to become the first Doncaster Mile winning filly since the mighty Sunline back in 1999.

She won her opening three career starts before being ruled out of the Flight Stakes in the spring but word from the stable is she’s ready to atone and continue her rise through the ranks this time in.

Waller has prepared the Doncaster Mile winner on six occasions but not since the great Winx (2015) a decade ago.

He has a bumper 26 Doncaster Mile nominees this season looking to break the drought with other early standouts from the stable including his Flight Stakes winner Lady Shenandoah, multiple Group 1 winning mare Fangirl, and unlikely final acceptor Via Sistina who won famously won the spring’s Ladbrokes Cox Plate by eight lengths.

The other early favourite, Tavistock four-year-old Ceolwulf, hails from the Warwick Farm stables of Joe Pride and stamped himself as a champion in the making last campaign when completing the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) – Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1600m) double here over the Randwick mile.

Pride is also a multiple Doncaster Mile winning trainer having won with Vision And Power (2008) and Sacred Choice (2010).

Looking to take out the Doncaster Mile trophy for the first time in 2025 is master horseman Ciaron Maher who has nominated a dozen runners led by his first-up Group 1 CF Orr Stakes winner Another Wil who broke his elite level maiden with an upset over dual Doncaster Mile champ Mr Brightside (2022-23) at Caulfield.

The other top chance for Maher looks to be Gringotts, winner of November’s $3 million Big Dance on Melbourne Cup Day in Sydney and The Gong at Kembla Grange last prep.

Last year’s Doncaster Mile was won by the Les Bridge trained then three-year-old Celestial Legend.

The now four-year-old son of Dundeel holds a nomination again this autumn looking to defend his title and is at a current quote of $26 to do so and emulate Mr Brightside from the two years previous.

Others being kept safe in the Doncaster Mile odds pre-field include Godolphin‘s JJ Atkins – Golden Rose double winning colt Broadsiding and Japanese raider Geoglyph who could be in for a big bid down under over the coming months.

The 2025 Doncaster Mile first acceptances close on Tuesday the 11th of March 2025.
