Sunday’s Updated 2021 Winx Guineas Field & Odds

Sunday at the Sunshine Coast sees the postponed Caloundra Cup Day meeting take place including a bumper field of three-year-olds facing off in the Winx Guineas 2021.

Following the abandoned Caloundra meet from last weekend, there is another Heavy-rated track for Sunday’s rescheduled card.

One of the feature events on the program is the $175,000 Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m) with the updated field attracting 17 young milers.

Four of the final acceptors are under double-figures for the win in the latest Winx Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au including the $4.60 favourite, the John Smerdon-trained Rogue Rocker.

Brad Stewart rides the punters’ pick from a favourable barrier five draw on the weekend with the in-form Dissident gelding chasing a fourth win on the trot.

He comes off a hat-trick of winter wins in Queensland, the latest of which saw him carry 60kg to a narrow win as the odds-on favourite at the Gold Coast over 1400m on June 26.

Prior to that he had his debut Sunshine Coast run and won over 1400m, the Group 3 performer looking well-suited to a mile as he comes back to 57kg here.

The next two best in Winx Guineas betting following closely in the markets are Dzsenifer ($5.50) and the undefeated Chris Munce-trained Palaisipan ($6) drawn in barriers eight and sixteen respectively.

Gary Duncan’s local Sunshine Coast-trained Scissor Kick filly Dzsenifer has a lovely gate and is proven at the track.

She was good over the summer with back-to-back Eagle Farm seconds last December before resuming off a lengthy spell with a close first-up third only a half-length beaten in Ipswich’s TL Cooney (1350m).

Fitter for the run and back home, she looks a genuine hope to return to winning form.

Nicely-bred So You Think filly Palaisipan suffered an early blow with her wide barrier draw in the Winx Guineas field, the bonny bay looking to take her career record up to five-from-five.

She’s been flawless in the lead-up including the TL Cooney win on June 19, but is yet to race over further than 1350m or at the track so needs to answer a few questions in order to stay unbeaten come Sunday afternoon.

Rounding out the hopes under $10 in the Winx Guineas markets is the rails-drawn Tumbler Ridge, a mover in betting backed in from $9 to $7.50.

In-form hoop Ryan Maloney partners the consistent Spill The Beans colt from Brisbane whose past five runs have produced either a fourth or first placing.

His form shows 4-1-4-1-4 and so he is due a win here on the back of the close fourth in the TL Clooney that looks the lead-up race to follow to Caloundra.

Tumber Ridge ran fourth earlier this winter in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm, and also enjoyed a 1300m win at the same track in the Gold Jewel so is in the right vein of form.

The 2021 Winx Guineas is set to run as the Sunshine Coast Race 7 at 4:19pm (AEST) on Sunday with the latest markets available here courtesy of Ladbrokes.com.au.
