Melbourne racing is headlined today, Saturday September 19, by Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day 2020 at Caulfield and below we take a look at the latest scratchings and track report ahead of the first.
The forecast in Melbourne is for a partly cloudy and windy, but otherwise fine day, and without any rain on the radar the current Good (4) Caulfield track rating should stay in play across the afternoon.
Caulfield racing gets underway at 12:30pm (AEST) and the nine-race card continues through until the mares do battle in the Group 3 How Now Stakes at 5:25pm (AEST).
It’s a quality field in the last with all 13 original acceptors for the 2020 How Now Stakes still in the mix including the hot favourite Lyre ($2.40 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) looking to return to winning form.
Group racing at the meeting gets underway with Race 7 at 4:15pm (AEST) where a $5 million Caulfield Cup ballot exemption is on offer to the winner of the Group 3 MRC Foundation Cup.
Formerly known as the Naturalism Stakes, the event has four scratchings from the field including original top-weight Mirage Dancer (61kg) being saved for the JRA Cup at The Valley next Friday night and Group 1 winner Cape Of Good Hope.
The day’s marquee race is the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Race 8) with the Godolphin-raced Roheryn (14) the only withdrawal from an intriguing race where the Memsie Stakes winner Behemoth ($4.80 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) is the top-weight and favourite in betting.
