One of the headline events on the $10 million Magic Millions Race Day in Queensland on Saturday, there is a capacity field of promising juveniles gathered for this summers’ Restricted Listed $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
It is a typically open affair in the post-barrier betting markets on the set weight sprint with Aim holding narrow $6 favouritism at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The well-bred Star Witness colt is one of four in the mix for Team Snowden who took out the event in 2016 with subsequent Golden Slipper Capitalist.
Following a win on debut at Rosehill, Aim showed his ability with a powerful four length romp home at Randwick over 1200m on December 21 defeating stablemate Stellar Pauline.
Stellar Pauline had opposite luck with the Magic Millions Classic barriers, the Not A Single Doubt filly drawing 13.
The other two Team Snowden runners are King’s Legacy and Nitrous drawn in barriers eight and 11 respectively.
King’s Legacy is the equal $7 second elect in Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting following his half-length win over Every Rose in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 28.
The other $7 shot is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Farnan, an undefeated Not A Single Doubt colt drawn well in barrier five whose last also produced a victory over the Mark Newnham-trained filly Every Rose in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 12.
As for Every Rose, the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes winning daughter of Choisir will be out to improve on her back-to-back seconds this summer from gate nine with Josh Parr in the saddle.
There are eight fillies confirmed a start in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic field in 2020 looking to become the fourth straight female winner of the event.
The girls have dominated recent Magic Millions Classic results at the Gold Coast with a hat-trick of wins by Houtzen (2017), Sunlight (2018) and Exhilarates (2019).
The other standout fillies in the mix this Queensland Summer Racing Carnival include Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic winner Euphoric Summer (6) coming off a third in the B.J. McLachlan, and the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Calaway Gal Stakes winner Away Game (14) who both represent good value at $21 and $26 respectively.
Maher & Eustace have also accepted for their Fastnet Rock colt Rathlin, a three-length winner in the Phelan Ready Stakes last start, who is out to $15 after drawing out in gate 19.
Last year’s winning trainer James Cummings returns after back-to-back victories, this year saddling-up Conceited ($9) from a wide barrier (17) for Godolphin.
The flashy black colt by Brazen Beau won at Flemington on debut in mid-December before his last-start second behind Gold Coast local Wisdom Of Water in last weekend’s Gold Nugget (1100m).
The Gold Nugget winner Wisdom Of Water has drawn well midfield in gate seven on the quick back-up for Toby & Trent Edmonds who won the race from the outside alley with star filly Houtzen three years ago.
