Begood Toya Mother was also good to punters at Caulfield on Saturday as Daniel Bowman’s five-year-old saluted in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) as the favourite.

Fresh from an encouraging sixth in last months Group 1 Memsie Stakes, Begood Toya Mother was installed at $3.10 odds in the capacity field after winning six straight races earlier in the year.
Nothing came easy, but Begood Toya Mother made full use of a handy inside draw to race away over the final 200m and win by a length and a half.
Not surprisingly, jockey Declan Bates chose to sit up on the speed from the gates, a move that proved the difference as Begood Toya Mother switched on down the straight to race away from the challenging Age of Chivalry.
The win was the first Group 1 victory for Bowman, and after targeting the Sir Rupert Clarke following a Benchmark 70 win at Ladbrokes Park back in April, the result completed the fairytale.
“It was perfect. You could just the horse was getting keen and when Linda came across the horse went to sleep. Good tempo, took the backmarkers out of it and just used our weight to our advantage, and was too strong,” Bowman said of the win.
“Since Sandown, he put the writing on the wall that he was the type of horse that fitted the profile for this race. So that’s when we put the plan in motion to get here. When a long-range plan comes off it’s fulfilling, and I’m sure it’ll sink in later.”
Bates echoed Bowman’s sentiments and said the light 52kg weight certainly played a part.
“To be honest I’ve known for so long that he was probably going to get this weight. I’ve approached it really well, and I feel 100%. Just happy to be able to do this horse justice,” Bates said.
