David Vandyke’s smart filly Baccarat Baby has been installed as the pre-field favourite in Sunshine Coast Guineas 2019 betting for this weekend on the quick back-up out of the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara.
The three-year-old daughter of Casino Prince is one of 22 nominations taken for the Group 3 $140,000 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on Caloundra Cup Day this weekend and holds narrow favouritism in futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Locally-trained, Baccarat Baby sits as a $4 top elect to retain her undefeated status at the Sunshine Coast track where she has had three starts for three wins to date.
A two-time winner over the mile, she looks set to appreciate a return to 1600m and facing a field of fellow three-year-olds after her brave effort as the first emergency against the older mares in Brisbane last Saturday.
The filly gained a late call-up into the Tatt’s Tiara field over 1400m at Eagle Farm and from her wide barrier 16 of 18 draw finished 3.8 lengths back 24th behind the Chris Waller-trained winner Invincibella.
Before that, Baccarat Baby finished second in both the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) and Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m), form that the punters are tipping to stack-up at Caloundra in the Guineas.
Over half the 2019 Sunshine Coast Guineas nominations this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival are fillies looking to be the first female winner of the race since the mighty Winx (2015).
The other best-fancied filly in the all-in Sunshine Coast Guineas odds at $5 is the Kris Lees-trained Asharani.
Daughter of ace sire I Am Invincible, who has been announced as the first stallion to serve Winx during her opening season as a broodmare, Asharani comes off a lead-up second at Randwick’s Kensington track from June 10.
Carting plenty of weight in that BM70 race she was narrow defeated over 1550m and looks well-suited to Saturday’s set weights conditions.
Lees has also nominated for his consistent Camelot filly Lady Of Shalott ($11).
Narrow second elect in the latest Guineas markets paying $4.40 meanwhile is Junipal, Ciaron Maher & David Eustace’s Reset colt chasing just his second career win at start number 11 next time out.
He is another Queensland Guineas graduate this winter having run a braved fifth when 2.4 lengths beaten by the winner Kolding on June 8.
Other notable Sunshine Coast Guineas entries include progressive Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Medaglia D’Oro filly Statuesquely coming off a narrow second over 1800m at Randwick, Group 2 Stutt Stakes winning Hinchinbrook colt Leonardo Da Hinchi and Peter & Paul Snowden’s Mossman filly Zavance.
The official Sunshine Coast Guineas 2019 field and updated odds will be available at Ladbrokes.com.au on Wednesday.
