Eureka Stud-bred three-year-old Boomsara originally opened as a favourite ahead of this weekend’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m), but after some shocking luck at Tuesday’s barrier draw, Chris Munce’s main chance has drifted significantly.
It will take plenty of luck from barrier 18 in the talented 17 horse field if Boomsara is to claim his third career win at the Gold Coast. The son of Spirit of Boom stood at $3.50 pre-barrier draw, but has since widened to $4.50 after race-favourite Outback Barbie drew barrier 3.
Boomsara won by a length at the Gold Coast last March over 1200m, and has since enjoyed up and down success at Doomben. A more than convincing four-length win in the Group 3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate (1350m), a Magic Millions trial, put Munce’s hopeful on track for the Guineas, and after leading from the front from barrier 12, a win on Saturday certainly isn’t out of the question.
Jockey Damian Browne will again take the ride this weekend with a 1.0kg penalty.
