Spring Champion Stakes Day: Randwick Ravished by Scratchings

Heavy rainfall in Sydney has seen Royal Randwick downgraded to a heavy 9 on Saturday morning, wreaking havoc on what was supposed to be a large 14 horse field on the final race of the day.

With just seven runners remaining, Race 9 has seen the likes of Chris Waller’s Metamporphic and John P Thompson trained Let’s Party Marty withdrawn from the 1200m sprint race, while fortunately, the 2018 version of the $500,000 Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) remains relatively unchanged.

Out of the 13 horse field, James Cummings trained Cloak looks to be the only late withdrawal. Three runners have also withdrawn from the $300,000 Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) including Performer, Ef Troop and Paquirri.
