The Chris Munce trained Boomsara will lead the local charge against the might of the Chris Waller stable when he lines up in the Group 1 $600,000 Jaguar Land Rover J.J. Atkins Plate (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Waller will saddle up the top three in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with $2.40 favourite The Autumn Sun, Lean Mean Machine at $4.40 and Zousain on the third line of betting at $7.50 while the bookies have Boomsara marked as a $19 chance.
The Autumn Sun is coming off a last start win over 1400m at Randwick on May 26 while Boomsara finished third behind Lean Mean Machine and Zousain in the Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on the same day.
Waller has already won two Group 1 races over the 2018 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival at Doomben with Comin’ Through taking out the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup (2000m) and Youngstar winning the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m).
Regular rider Matthew McGillivray will stick with Boomsara who drew barrier eight in the final fourteen horse J.J. Atkins Plate field while The Autumn Sun (Kerrin McEvoy) has drawn barrier six , Lean Mean Machine (Corey Brown) has drawn barrier nine while Zousain (James McDonald) will jump from the outside gate.
Munce is happy with the progress of Boomsara following his BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes run and said the Spirit Of Boom youngster galloped strongly during the week.
“He has really come on nicely,” Munce told Sky Racing.
“I probably left a little bit in the tank leading into the Sires but he is properly tuned up, he is a million per cent, his coat looks terrific and his gallop this morning (Tuesday) was very good.”
“Very happy with him going into the race.”
