Waller’s fillies included in 2018 Queensland Derby 1st acceptances

Trainer Chris Waller’s Queensland Oaks quinella of Youngstar and Another Dollar have been included in the first acceptances for the 2018 Group 1 $600,000 Channel Seven Queensland Derby (2200m) at Doomben on June 9.

Youngstar and Another Dollar as well as Kiwi filly Terra Sancta are the only three fillies among the thirty-two three year olds listed as first acceptors for the Queensland Derby.

Youngster made it four wins on the trot when she beat her stablemate Another Dollar by a nose in the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben on May 26 with the Tony Pike trained Terra Sancta chasing home the Waller pair in sixth position.

Waller’s Queensland foreman Paul Shailer said that both his fillies are still in work and are a chance of taking on the colts and geldings in the Queensland Derby.

“Both are still in work and are a chance to run in the Derby, although no decision has been made as yet,” Shailer told Racenet.

Waller’s other first acceptors for the 2018 Queensland Derby are Tangled, Almighty Crown, Merovee, Augustus and Ombudsman.

Youngstar is equal number one in the order of entry for the 2018 Queensland Derby alongside of the Darren Weir trained Heavenly Thought and Kerry Parker’s Dark Dream.

Dark Dream threw himself into Queensland Derby contention with a four lengths win in the Group 3 $125,000 Mitty’s Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben on May 12 but then had to chase home Heavenly Thought and Han Xin when third in the Group 3 $150,000 Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Doomben last Saturday.

Dark Dream and Heavenly Thought share the third line of betting for the Queensland Derby at $6 with Ladbrokes.com.au behind Live And Free at $4 and Lucky For All at $4.20 while Youngstar is at $11 and Another Dollar at $31.

The John O’Shea trained Live And Free made it two wins on the trot with his impressive victory in a BenchMark 79 Handicap over 2000m at Randwick last Saturday while the Weir trained Lucky For All made it a hat trick of wins with a three length victory in a 2000m three year old Handicap at Caulfield on May 12 before his winning run came to an end when seventh in a 2100m three year old Handicap at Sandown last weekend after being badly held up for a run in the straight.

Early betting for the 2018 Queensland Derby at Ladbrokes.com.au: $4 Live And Free, $4.20 Lucky For All, $6 Dark Dream, Heavenly Thought, $11 Mahamedeis, Youngstar, $13 Han Xin, $21 Rezealment, Tangled, $26 Merovee, $31 Another Dollar, $41 Banner Season, California Turbo, Heir To The Throne, Ombudsman, Won Won Too, $61 or better the rest.

The final field for the 2018 Queensland Derby will be released on Wednesday June 6.
