It’s Somewhat included in 2018 A.D. Hollindale Stakes nominations

Last year’s winner It’s Somewhat is included in the nominations for the 2018 Group 2 $358,000 Attwood Marshall 2018 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

It’s Somewhat led all of the way to win the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick during the 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival and then repeated his front running display to take out last year’s A.D. Hollindale Stakes.

But the James Cummings trained Godolphin galloper hasn’t visited the winner’s stall since with his best effort being a third behind Tosen Stardom and Happy Clapper in the Group 1 $2m Emirates Stakes (2000m) at Flemington during the 2017 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

It’s Somewhat has had one run back from a spell for a sixth to Trapeze Artist in the Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 21.

Trainer Chris Waller has stacked the A.D. Hollindale Stakes with five of the nineteen nominations coming from the stable of Sydney’s leading trainer with Comin’ Through, Egg Tart, One Foot In Heaven, Satono Rasen, and Tom Melbourne.

Comin’ Through was fairly consistent during the 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival and after winning the Group 2 $200,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 17, went on to run second to Happy Clapper in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) on day one of The Championships at Randwick on April 7 followed by a fifth, seven days later, to Winx in the Group 1 $4m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

Tom Melbourne is also coming through the Sydney Autumn Carnival and heads to Queensland on the back of an eighth to Trapeze Artist in the All Aged Stakes.

The well performed mare Oregon’s Day from the Mick Price stable is also nominated for the A.D. Hollindale Stakes and was Group 1 placed during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a second to Daysee Doom in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 17.

Oregon’s Day was runner up again in the Group 2 $200,000 Jim Beam Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 31 followed by a fourth to Alizee in the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 14.
