The Coolmore Classic is the obvious highlight of the card, but there are plenty of interesting betting races spread right across the afternoon!
It is Chris Waller-trained Egg Tart that is currently on top of the 2018 Coolmore Classic betting market with Ladbrokes and she has been very well supported, but there has also been money for the likes of Godolphin galloper Raiment ($7.50), the consistent Dixie Blossoms ($8) and Group 1 winner Silent Sedition ($9).
There are also set to be some changes to the Golden Slipper betting market with Ladbrokes following the running of the Magic Night Stakes and the Pago Pago Stakes, which include leading Golden Slipper contenders Sunlight and Written By.
Don’t miss out on all the action at horseracing.com.au this afternoon!
2018 Coolmore Classic Day Results
Race 1 (12:15pm) – $100,000 Catanach’s Handicap Results
Multifacets recorded his first race win since November in 2016 in the Catanach’s Handicap at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
Cyrus Rocks ensured that the race was run at a genuine tempo, but Multifacets was able to tough it out right on the speed to score a strong win.
All Too Soon was extremely well-backed in the lead-up to the race, but she got too far back and had too much work to do late.
- 1st – Multifacets
- 2nd – All Too Soon
- 3rd – Tamarack
Race 2 (12:55pm) – $350,000 Group 3 Sky High Stakes Results
Auvray will head towards the 2018 Sydney Cup after he recorded an impressive win in the Sky High Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
It looked as though the well-backed Libran would fight out the finish with early leader Stampede, but Glyn Schofield timed his ride to perfection on Auvray and he flew down the outside to score a strong win.
The win of Auvray gave Schofield an early race-to-race double following his win on Multifacets in the opener.
- 1st – Auvray
- 2nd – Libran
- 3rd – Mackintosh
Race 3 (1:30pm) – $175,000 Group 3 Magic Night Stakes Results
Sunlight maintained her winning run with a comfortable win in the 2018 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
This was Sunlight’s final preparatory run for the Golden Slipper and it was clear that she needed the run, but she still never looked like getting beaten.
Sunlight will back-up in the Golden Slipper next weekend and will go into the race as one of the leading contenders.
- 1st – Sunlight
- 2nd – Cristobal
- 3rd – Sweet Ava
Race 4 (2:10pm) – $175,000 Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes Results
Written By will go into the Golden Slipper as a leading contender following his tough win in the 2018 Pago Pago Stakes.
It was not easy for Written By and he was challenged by Sandbar in the concluding stages of the race, but he was simply too tough in the concluding stages.
Written By has now recorded four wins from as many starts following his impressive victory in the 2018 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes.
- 1st – Written By
- 2nd – Sandbar
- 3rd – Spin
Race 5 (2:50pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes Results
Sprightly Lass was the first horse across the line in the Maurice McCarten Stakes, but the race was awarded to Dothraki on protest.
Dothraki was clearly interfered with when Sprightly Lass laid out in the concluding stages of the race and it was one of the more simple protest decisions that you will ever see.
The Maurice McCarten Stakes win ended a lengthy losing streak for Dothraki, who had not recorded a race win since the 2015 edition of the City Tatts Lightning.
- 1st – Dothraki
- 2nd – Sprightly Lass
- 3rd – New Universe
Race 6 (3:30pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes Results
Unforgotten could head to the 2018 Vinery Stud Stakes in a fortnight after she recorded an impressive win in the Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
Holy Snow looked as though he had the race won when he hit the front at the 150 metre mark, but Unforgotten showed an outstanding turn-of-foot to finish over the top of her rivals.
Unforgotten was forced to trial during the week after suffering cardiac arrhythmia at her most recent start and trainer Chris Waller believed that proved to be a big advantage.
- 1st – Unforgotten
- 2nd – Holy Snow
- 3rd – Hiyaam
Race 7 (4:10pm) – $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic Results
Daysee Doom held-off a host of challengers to record a maiden Group 1 victory in the 2018 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
There was no money for Daysee Doom in the lead-up to the Coolmore Challenge and she looked like a sitting duck at the top of the straight, but she was able cling on to victory in the concluding stages.
The win of Daysee Doom gave young jockey Andrew Adkins a maiden Group 1 win and continued the excellent record of Ron Quinto in the Coolmore Classic.
- 1st – Daysee Doom
- 2nd – Oregon’s Day
- 3rd – Silent Sedition
Race 8 (4:50pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Ajax Stakes Results
Comin’ Through finished over the top of his rivals to record a narrow win in the 2018 Ajax Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
In-form jockey Michael Walker gave Comin’ Through a lovely trail into the race and he peeled the half-brother to Criterion out at the top of the straight.
Tom Melbourne loomed on the outside and looked as though he would finish over the top of his stablemate, but he simply could not get past his stablemate.
- 1st – Comin’ Through
- 2nd – Tom Melbourne
- 3rd – Radipole
