Race 2 (1:05pm) – $125,000 Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m)
The David Pfieffer-trained Snitzel filly I Am Excited made it back-to-back wins backing up from a 1100m success at Rosehill to salute in the Fireball Stakes in her first black-type success.
Heading towards a shot at the Group 2 $600,000 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick during ‘The Championships’, I Am Excited settled off the speed today that was set by Tim Martin’s $91 roughie Shudabeen and the race favourite Houtzen.
The returning Houtzen had the lead coming around the bend, but was quickly under siege on the straight with Acqume moving up and I Am Excited charging home from the back.
I Am Excited took the lead late in the final 50 to pull away and win by Acqume who worked much better today with the blinkers on.
It was a fairly flat performance first-up from Houtzen who held for third.
