Co-favourite in early Golden Slipper betting Estijaab has her final lead-up to the $3.5 million feature in Saturday’s Reisling Stakes 2018 field where she jumps odds-on to win.
The two traditional preparatory races for juveniles heading into the iconic Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 24 take place on Saturday on Randwick Guineas Day including the fillies facing off in the Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Stakes (1200m).
The official Reisling Stakes field attracted just the eight young hopefuls and the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are all about the Hawkes Racing-trained daughter of Snitzel Estijaab.
A winner at the Randwick track on debut by four lengths over 1000m back on January 20, she comes off a narrow second to Sunlight in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).
Current Reisling Stakes odds suggest she can bounce back to winning form without Sunlight in the mix, Estijaab at $1.35 to win from her gun barrier two draw with jockey Brenton Avdulla retaining the ride.
Team Hawkes are dually represented in the race also accepting for Nuclear Blitz, a daughter of 2011 Golden Slipper winner Sepoy whose only other start to date was a fourth in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on February 17.
Nuclear Blitz is paying $34 in the Reisling Stakes odds for Saturday with Tye Angland booked for the second-up ride on the untapped chestnut.
The other single-figure fancy in the Reisling Stakes betting markets for Saturday meanwhile is Queensland visitor Outback Barbie who has already been backed-in from $7.50 to $6.50.
While Estijaab sits top of the pre-field Golden Slipper odds at an equal $4.80 with Sunlight, Outback Barbie is only rated a $26 shot for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.
A Reisling Stakes upset on the weekend from the Tony Gollan-trained Spirit Of Boom filly however will see her firm dramatically.
Outback Barbie won Doomben’s Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1100m) back in December before her third to Sunlight at the Gold Coast in mid-January’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
After a freshen-up she is back, racing in Sydney for the first time in the Reisling Stakes on the back of a winning Gold Coast trial by a runaway nine and a half-lengths over 1000m on March 1.
The other standout Golden Slipper-bound filly in the mix shapes-up as the Godolphin-raced Gongs in barrier six with Hugh Bowman booked to ride the daughter of Dawn Approach.
Gongs enjoyed back-to-back wins to kick off her career in the summer before her first-up third in the Silver Slipper Stakes when crossing over seven lengths off the winner.
