Trainer Darren Weir has revealed that talented three-year-old Tiamo Grace has completely overcome a string of ailments and could return to the races as soon as Saturday’s Flemington card.
Tiamo Grace has made only five competitive appearances since debuting in August last year, but has shown plenty of ability and class on her way to two impressive wins and a further three minors; highlighted by her comfortable win in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) on Derby Day.
Weir told Racing Victoria that he is pleased with the filly’s continually building condition and he is exciting by the prospect of getting her up to a race contested over a mile-and-a-half for the first time this season.
“She had a good gallop this morning so we’ll just wait to see how she pulls up before making up our mind, but we are really pleased with the way she’s been coming along,” Weir said.
“Her action just wasn’t quite right so we pulled the pin and decided to concentrate on the spring.
“She got to the 2000 metres of the Wakeful and we’ve been looking forward to getting her to a mile-and-a-half (2400m) and see what she can do.”
Trialling well ahead of her racing debut, Tiamo Grace immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when she ran on well to finish third amongst notable company in the Bottle Maiden Plate (1208m) on August 8th.
Breaking through for her first race win in the A Little Bit Over? Maiden (13540m) at Donald on August 27th, the daughter of Monaco Consul ran second at Murtoa on September 24th, before making a competitive transition to black type company when second behind Eleonora in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) on October 15th.
Jumping from the gates well in the Wakeful Stakes, jockey Damian Lane took a positive position just behind the early pace with Tiamo Grace and was greeted with a big turn of foot in the final straight, as she comfortably overcame a classy field.
Flemington finals fields are due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
