Gerald Ryan’s Moreton Cup winner Deploy is one of the headline nominations taken for the W.J. Healy Stakes 2017 this Saturday at Doomben Racecourse on Tattersall’s Tiara Day.
The four-year-old son of Fastnet Rock saluted at the track on June 3 beating home Dothraki by a quarter-length in the Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) to take his career record up to six wins from 13 starts.
Deploy could get the chance to add to that with back-to-back Group wins this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival having been entered for the $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) on the weekend.
Moreton Cup runner-up Dothraki from the stables of Peter & Paul Snowden is also nominated for a rematch in Saturday’s W.J. Healy Stakes.
The six-year-old Mossman gelding had his fourth Doomben start when second in the Moreton Cup, his third placing at the track.
Dothraki took out the 2015 edition of the W.J. Healy when the race took place at the Gold Coast, but hasn’t posted a win since October that year.
Team Snowden have also nominated for their four-year-old Hinchinbrook mare Flippant who hasn’t raced since her third to Dixie Blossoms at Randwick in late February’s Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) run on a Heavy (10) track.
A previous black-type winner at the Doomben track back in 2015, Flippant has had two trials since her start including a Rosehill win over 1030m on June 13 bringing her on fitness-wise for her Tatt’s Day assignment.
Just one three-year-old features in the W.J. Healy Stakes nominations for this weekend, the Mel Eggleston-trained filly All Over Bosanova also entered for the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) at the meeting.
The daughter of Court Command has won five of her eight starts to date, including most recently the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Stradbroke Day a fortnight back.
The other last start winner in the mix is the James Cummings-trained Northern Meteor five-year-old Burning Passion.
A proven mudlark who has won four-from-six on Heavy tracks, the gelding made the most of the conditions at Eagle Farm on May 27 for a 1200m win in a Benchmark 95 ahead of a possible Doomben run in the Healy.
Other notable W.J. Healy Stakes nominees this winter include the Darren Weir-trained BRC Sprint placegetter Ulmann out to atone for his 11th in the Stradbroke, Toby Edmond’s consistent four-year-old Prompt Return and returning nine-year-old Steel Zip.
See below for the full W.J. Healy Stakes 2017 nominations, final acceptances closing on Wednesday followed by the Group winter racing markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
