The 2017 Angus Armanasco Stakes is one of the key non-Group 1 support races on the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes Day program this weekend, betting tips and updated odds on the race found below.
Running as Caulfield Race 4 at 2:15pm (AEDT), eleven three-year-old fillies take to the track in this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) field.
Leading the latest Angus Armanasco Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au in a wide-open market paying $2.70 is the David and Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Fuhryk.
The Star Witness filly has raced six times for four wins to date, including the two length romp home at the Caulfield track a fortnight back in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m).
That race looks the formline to follow in the Angus Armanasco Stakes on Saturday and with a similar barrier draw (7) to last start and Craig Williams retaining the ride, there’s lots to like about the favourite.
The bookmakers have a further four fillies under double figures in the Angus Armanasco Stakes betting markets this autumn including early mover Jennifer Lynn ($4.20) prepared by Darren Weir.
Third-up this High Chaparral filly should be reaching her peak, especially over her pet distance that she is unbeaten over (3-3-0-0).
So will Fuhryk and Jennifer Lynn fight it out for the Angus Armanasco Stakes title or is the value further down the markets from the likes of the ultra-consistent WA raider Ellicazoom ($7) second-up for Neville Parnham or the Mick Price-trained Kevin Hayes Stakes runner-up Oregon’s Day ($8.50)?
Happy to stick with the fit and in-form favourite for the flying Lindsay Park stable who look in for a huge Blue Diamond Stakes day 2017. Williams rides the super-consistent filly from a gate that gives them options during the run. She won the traditional Group 3 lead-up by two lengths so the step up to 1400m is a non-issue. Hard to tip against a filly who is going this good even at short odds.
The Perth form has held up in Melbourne plenty of times. Exhibit A: Black Heart Bart. Parnham tests his daughter of Testa Rossa on the eastern side of the country for the first time in the weekend off a first-up second over 1200m a fortnight back. She’s got plenty of Group form at home including the WA Guineas second over a mile against the boys last November. Presents fit, knows how to run a nice race and distance is ideal. Danger.
Money coming for Weir’s filly who can improve on the Kevin Hayes Stakes fifth last time out. She is well-proven at 1400m (3-3-0-0) and the distance is key for her in this. Drawn wide but is peaking, with a quiet ride off the pace from Blake Shinn she’ll be saved for a powerful finish.
