Trainer Darren Weir has confirmed his smart filly Limestone would not be a late Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes 2017 entry in the Group 1 classic this Saturday at Caulfield Racecourse.
Connections have a final chance to pay the $55,000 late entry fee on Monday to get their two-year-old into the $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) field.
Weir however told Racing Victoria that hefty cost would not be forked out by the owners of the well-bred Helmet filly Limestone.
The bookmakers have kept Limestone safe in futures 2017 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes betting with Ladbrokes.com.au quoting her at $10.
The promising grey has enjoyed two wins, a second and a third from her four career starts to date.
She won the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) two back on Australia Day and was last seen crossing second to the Lindsay Park-trained Catchy in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 11.
Despite that eye-catching run, Weir said the filly would bypass the Blue Diamond in favour of a freshen-up before a possible late autumn return in the $600,000 Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) for fillies at Randwick during ‘The Championships’ in April.
“If they are happy with her, then she’ll come back into work then we’ll go to Sydney for the two-year-old fillies race,” Weir said after confirming Limestone was headed to the property of her owner – breeder David Moodie.
The aforementioned Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner Catchy leads the latest all-in Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes odds at $5.50 to continue her unbeaten record and hand co-trainer David Hayes with a sixth win in the juveniles’ feature.
Pariah is the other early favourite in Blue Diamond Stakes betting for Peter & Paul Snowden.
