The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Festival Stakes winner Sweet Redemption is nominated for a Queensland run this weekend in the Brisbane Handicap 2016 at Doomben Racecourse.
One of six Black-Type races on the Doomben card on Saturday, this summer’s $100,000 Listed PPS Tailored Furniture Solutions Brisbane Handicap (1600m) has attracted eleven hopefuls at nomination stage.
The equal highest rated on the ballot is four-year-old Snitzel mare Sweet Redemption from Sydney.
She comes off a string of good runs this campaign including her Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) win at Rosehill on December 3.
Sweet Redemption carried 54kg to her narrow victory that day and will face a test stepping up to a mile and going up to 57kg in the Brisbane Handicap weights if accepted for.
Heading the weights with 59kg is the Peter Robl-trained Centre Pivot.
The six-year-old son of More Than Ready hasn’t won a race since his Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) success at this track and distance 12 months ago.
He has since been tested in Group 1 class when sixth to Winx in February’s Chipping Norton Stakes and is atone for a ninth in a Listed Hawkesbury race over 1400m on November 3.
He has won a subsequent Warwick Farm trial and has good form at a mile with two wins, a second and a third from five previous runs at the distance.
Along with Sweet Redemption there are four other last start winners nominated for a Brisbane Handicap run this weekend including the Desleigh Forster-trained Cylinder Beach.
The four-year-old Showcasing gelding won the Listed Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm first-up on November 26 by one and a half lengths.
He now steps up in distance second-up and has won two-from-three over 1600m to date including the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic at Doomben back in April.
Cylinder Beach should be improved off his resuming run, but needs to handle a rise from his 54kg winning weight last time out to 56kg on the weekend.
Also out to extend a winning streak are Clang five-year-old Top Tone who saluted with 58kg over the distance at Eagle Farm in easier company on November 16, and the Bruce Hill-trained duo of Man Of His Word and Bodega Negra all on the 54kg minimum in the Brisbane Handicap.
Hidden Dragon six-year-old Bodega Negra comes off a win in the Coffs Harbour Cup from December 9 and comes back from 56kg.
Other notable entries include the Tony Gollan-trained Frespanol who is another genuine miler and the Brian Smith-trained Feltre coming off a third to Cylinder Beach in the Recognition Stakes.
