Set to run as Ascot Race 5 at 3:20pm (local time), this season’s $200,000 Group 3 Breast Cancer Care W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) field features a dozen hopefuls.
The latest WA Champion Fillies Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Ellicazoom ($2.50) who shoots for her third win on the trot.
Prepared by one of Perth’s best Neville Parnham, the daughter of Testa Rossa was last seen taking out the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at the track and looks set to step up to the mile on the weekend.
Outside of the favourite it is shaping up as an open WA Champion Fillies Stakes betting affair this season with a further fourth hopes under $10 for the win.
At $3.40 the Simon Miller-trained Caipirinha is the second favourite and comes off a string of top two runs.
She jumps from barrier seven this weekend with Joseph Azzopardi continuing his association, the Nicconi filly having won in Black-Type class at the track two back before finishing a length away second to Ellicazoom last time out.
The other top chances according to the bookies include the widely-drawn I Am Boudica ($5.50) with the outside alley to overcome as she looks to improve on her last start fourth in the Burgess Queen Stakes and early market mover Royal Missile ($6) who is Miller’s other runner.
So will Ellicazoom continue her winning ways or is there an upset WA Champion Fillies Stakes result on the agenda from the likes of Daniel Morton’s daughter of Savabeel Samovare ($8.50)?
1st
#4 Ellicazoom ($2.50)
Too much form and class to turn your back on the favourite. She’s short but deservedly so and should be able to continue the winning streak and post a third on the trot. Gets the run of the race from the alley and just keeps stepping up to the plate and delivering. Jockey knows her well, she’s two-from-four at the track and looks like she’ll see out a strong mile after handling a similar line-up last time out on November 1.
2nd
#8 Samovare ($8.50)
Sticking with the Burgess Queen form and think the third placegetter in that can go one better at good odds. She did well to finish 1.75 lengths back from barrier 12 of 12 in that run, is wide again (10) but is hitting peak form. Brad Parnham sticks in the saddle and she’s another that should run the mile.
3rd
#1 Caipirinha ($3.40)
Runner-up in the traditional lead-up, she was up front and only narrowly beaten when run down last time out. She’ll be fitter here, hasn’t finished worse than second in her four runs this campaign and word from the stable is she’ll enjoy a mile despite looking to run out of steam in the closing stages last start.
