Veteran trainer Clarry Conners has revealed the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 13th is likely to figure as the next point of call for stable-favourite Decision Time.
Posting ten wins and further eight minors through his long and busy forty-five start career so far, Decision Time has continued to produce standout results for the Conners stable through recent seasons and is set to enter the 2016 Ramornie Handicap off the back of a typically smart run for second in the Winter Dash (1200m) at Randwick over the weekend.
Conners revealed that the Foreplay gelding is amidst his final competitive preparation, and confirmed the 2016 Ramornie Handicap will figure as the next point of call should the Grafton Cup remain dry through the coming week.
“I’m still waiting for a dry track for him. Providing the track is ok at Grafton we’ll go up for the Ramornie,” Conners told Racenet.
“He’s been a hard horse to train because he’s so big and does so well,” Conners said.
“He’s also had a bad run of injuries and so I’m always worried about if he’s going to break down again or if he goes into his races a touch underdone.
“But I worked him hard last Tuesday and he loved it. He also swims every day to keep the weight off him.
“This will be his last preparation, he’s been a great old horse.”
Decision Time returned to racing last spring in typically smart form; running fourth amongst classy company in the Fairfield RSL Club BM90 (1200m) before taking out the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) most notably on August 22nd.
Returned to racing on Boxing Day for fourth in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m), Decision Time failed to beat a runner home in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) but responded with strong runs for fifth in the Ranvet BM93 (1000m) and second in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m).
Resuming from a brief freshen-up for fifth in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) on March 12th, the gelding out of Daunting Thought failed to figure in his five subsequent starts, but returned to form with his most recent effort at Randwick on Saturday.
