Eleven sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville Racecourse; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting standpoint and offering punters plenty of value.
Tuscan Sling has arguably returned to racing in career-best form this time and remains clear $2 favourite in RN Irwin Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Runway Star ($5.50) and La Passe ($7.50).
Will Tuscan Sling justify favouritism and win the 2016 RN Irwin Stakes or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?
Tuscan Sling carries great condition into the 2016 RN Irwin Stakes, has been charged with carrying only 56.5kgs and will leave from the rails draw. Posting an impressive six wins and five minors through twelve career starts so far, the Danehill Dancer mare ran third in the Jeep 55 Second Challenge Heat 8 (955m); progressing to success in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) on Boxing Day. Returning from a brief freshen-up for success over the likes of subsequent Group 1 champion Azkadellia in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) on February 13th, Tuscan Sling kicked home well for second in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) last time out.
Former Team Hawkes galloper Nostradamus will have his second start for leading South Australian trainer Phillip Stokes in the RN Irwin Stakes and will carry plenty of benefit into the race from his first-up start. Claiming three wins and two minors through seventeen career starts so far, the Medaglia D’oro entire returned a few good results between lacklustre weeks in 2015; highlighted by success in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) in late April. Nostradamus hit the line well for sixth in the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m) first-up a fortnight ago and should be right in the finish with Dom Tourneur in the saddle.
La Passe is yet to appear on course in 2016 but will relish the conditions of the RN Irwin Stakes first-up and could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 2. Experiencing a fast rise to prominence through a busy spring campaign, the Street Sense mare finished fourth in the Racing.com BM78 (1200m) on September 16th before taking out each of the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) in succession through October, most notably.
